Prepare your home for winter with expert roof repair, new roof installation, gutter installation, and home insulation from J. Smegal Roofing & Gutters. Stay warm, save money, and laugh through the storm!

Let’s face it, winter in Western Massachusetts doesn’t politely knock on the door. It kicks it in, dumps a snowdrift in your driveway, and leaves icicles that could star in a horror movie.

But don’t worry, with a little humor and a few smart fixes, you can make sure your home is ready to weather whatever the season throws your way.

At J. Smegal Roofing & Gutters, we’ve spent enough winters on ladders to know one truth: Mother Nature always wins, unless you’re prepared.

So grab a mug of cocoa (or something stronger), and let’s get your home ready for winter...the right way.

❄️ 1. Give Your Roof a Little Love Before It’s Buried in Snow

Your roof is like that quiet coworker who never takes a day off, it handles the hard stuff without complaint. Rain, sleet, snow, and wind all hit it first.

But even the toughest roofs need a checkup. Missing shingles, cracked flashing, or sagging spots might not seem urgent now, but trust us when the first blizzard hits, those little issues become very big, very wet problems.

If you spot anything questionable, it’s time to call in the pros for a roof repair. Not only does this prevent leaks, but it also protects your insulation, ceilings, and sanity.

And if your roof has seen more winters than your oldest kid, consider a new roof or roof installation. It’s not just about looks... a fresh roof means better protection, energy efficiency, and peace of mind.

So next time you’re searching roof repair near me or roofing services online, skip the guesswork. We’ve got you covered (literally).

🌨️ 2. Gutter Talk: Because Gravity Is Real

We get it... gutters aren’t glamorous. They don’t sparkle like new countertops or impress your in-laws. But they do keep your home dry and your foundation solid.

When gutters clog, meltwater has nowhere to go... except into your siding, foundation, or basement. And no one wants to spend January mopping up slush in their laundry room.

Before winter, give your gutters a good cleaning or call for gutter installation if they’re sagging or cracked. A properly installed system directs snowmelt safely away, preventing ice dams and damage.

If you’ve Googled gutter installation near me, you’re not alone! Homeowners realize it’s one of the smartest winter-prep moves out there.

Our team installs high-quality gutter systems that can stand up to the heaviest snow and ice loads Massachusetts can throw at them.

🔥 3. Insulation: Your Home’s Winter Jacket

When your heat escapes through the roof, you’re not just losing warmth, you’re losing money. Home insulation keeps that heat inside where it belongs.

Think of insulation as your house’s winter coat. Without enough of it, your furnace works overtime and your wallet gets frostbite.

Upgrading or adding insulation reduces heat loss, keeps rooms evenly warm, and helps prevent roof ice dams.

Professional insulation services near me (ahem — that’s us!) can identify where your home is losing heat and fix it fast. Whether you’re insulating homes for efficiency or comfort, a well-insulated attic and wall system is essential.

Bonus perk: you’ll stop arguing about who “left a window open” when the real culprit is poor insulation.

🌬️ 4. Attic Check: The Hidden Battlefield

The attic is where a lot of winter problems start. Too much heat trapped up there melts snow on your roof, creating, you guessed it, ice dams.

Before winter arrives, inspect your attic for moisture, mold, or signs of critters. If you see frost or damp insulation, that’s a red flag.

Proper ventilation and insulation can prevent condensation and structural damage. Whether it’s time for roof repair or additional insulation, our team can spot issues before they snowball.

🪟 5. Seal Those Gaps and Cracks

Drafty windows and doors are like tiny thieves stealing your heat. Walk around your home on a cold day, feel that chilly breeze near your window? That’s your heating bill waving goodbye.

Use weatherstripping and caulk to seal up those gaps. Replace old door sweeps. Even a simple fix can make a big difference.

If you’re already investing in a roof installation or gutter installation, bundle in some insulation or weatherproofing while you’re at it. It’s a smart, budget-friendly move that pays off all winter long.

🌲 6. Trim the Troublemakers

Trees are beautiful, until a branch decides to drop by uninvited during a snowstorm. Trim any limbs hanging near your roof or power lines before the snow flies.

Falling branches can damage shingles, gutters, and even puncture your roof. (We’ve seen it all — one customer had a pine branch spear right through their attic vent.)

A little pruning now could save you a massive roof repair later.

🧊 7. Ice Dams: Winter’s Worst Frenemies

Ice dams form when heat escapes from your home and melts snow on the roof. That melted water refreezes near the eaves, blocking drainage and forcing water under your shingles.

Once it leaks inside, you’re looking at stained ceilings, wet insulation, and a headache the size of Mount Greylock.

Good insulation and ventilation are your best defense. A new roof with proper airflow and underlayment can also help prevent this chilly disaster.

💨 8. Heat Loss: The Silent Budget Killer

Let’s talk about heat loss. It’s sneaky, silent, and costs you money every single winter.

You might not see it, but warm air escapes through cracks, poorly sealed ducts, or thin insulation. If your furnace seems to run nonstop, this could be why.

Our insulation services near me can help seal your home tight, so your heating system doesn’t have to work overtime.

When your house holds heat efficiently, you’ll notice it — not just in your comfort level, but in your utility bill.

🔧 9. Furnace and Safety Check

Before you crank up the heat for the season, schedule a furnace tune-up. Replace filters, check for carbon monoxide leaks, and test smoke detectors.

Snow buildup around vents can also block airflow, so make sure they’re clear. These small tasks might not seem urgent now, but they prevent emergencies later.

Winter is not the time to find out your furnace took early retirement.

🏠 10. Enjoy Winter Without the Worry

Once your roof, gutters, and insulation are ready, winter becomes something to enjoy — not fear.

You’ll be warm, dry, and relaxed while your neighbors are Googling “why is water dripping from my ceiling” at 3 AM.

That’s the beauty of being prepared. You get to actually enjoy the snow days instead of dreading them.

☕ Bonus: The Smegal Survival Checklist

Here’s your quick winter prep rundown:

✅ Schedule a roof inspection or roof repair before the snow falls.
✅ Clean or upgrade your gutters for proper drainage.
✅ Boost home insulation to prevent heat loss and lower bills.
✅ Seal windows, doors, and vents to block drafts.
✅ Trim trees and clear debris near your home.
✅ Test your furnace and safety devices.

Do this now, and you’ll thank yourself when the first storm hits.

💬 Final Thoughts: Winter-Proofing Can Be… Fun?

Okay, maybe “fun” is a stretch. But with the right attitude (and the right crew), it doesn’t have to be stressful.

At J. Smegal Roofing & Gutters, we specialize in making winter prep easy — from roof repair and roof installation to gutter installation and home insulation.

So if you’re typing roofing services, gutter installation near me, or insulation services near me into Google, stop right there — we’re already here and ready to help.

Because the only thing you should be worrying about this winter… is whether you’ve got enough marshmallows for your hot chocolate. ☕❄️

📞 Call J. Smegal Roofing & Gutters Today

Why You Should Insulate Your Home Before Winter Comes

When the leaves begin to fall and the first chill creeps into the air, every homeowner starts thinking about comfort. You pull out the blankets, check the furnace, and maybe even stock up on firewood. But one of the most important steps to prepare for winter often gets overlooked—your home’s insulation.

For homeowners in Berkshire, Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties, Massachusetts, winters can be brutal. Cold winds, heavy snow, and freezing temperatures can make even the coziest homes uncomfortable. The good news? Proper insulation can change everything.

At J Smegal Roofing, Gutter & Insulation, we understand what local homeowners face each winter. From drafty rooms to high energy bills, we’ve seen it all—and we’ve helped thousands of families create warmer, more efficient homes.

Here are the top reasons you should think about insulating your home before winter arrives—and how the right team can make a difference.

1. Stop the Cold Before It Starts

It happens every year. The first snow falls, the heat kicks on, and suddenly, your home feels unevenly warm. Some rooms are toasty while others stay cold, no matter how high you turn the thermostat.

That’s a clear sign your home needs better insulation.

Over time, insulation can settle, compress, or wear down. Tiny gaps around your attic, walls, and floors allow heat to escape and cold air to sneak in. The result? Drafts, cold spots, and rising heating costs.

If you’ve ever described your home as a “drafty house,” insulation is likely the issue. Professional house insulation can seal those gaps, keeping your warm air inside where it belongs. Once those leaks are fixed, you’ll notice the difference immediately—no more sitting under blankets in your own living room.

When you work with J Smegal, our insulation specialists start by identifying where your home is losing heat. We use advanced diagnostic tools to pinpoint air leaks and under-insulated areas. Then, we create a customized solution that targets your home’s specific needs.

By addressing the problem now, before temperatures drop, you’ll spend this winter warm and comfortable—and save money every month on heating costs.

2. Put an End to Cold Upstairs Bedrooms

Do you ever notice that the upstairs rooms in your home feel colder than the rest? That’s one of the most common complaints we hear from homeowners across Western Massachusetts.

The reason? Poor attic or ceiling insulation.

Warm air naturally rises, but without proper insulation, that heat escapes right through your roof. The air that’s supposed to keep your home cozy is literally vanishing into the cold sky above.

Cold rooms upstairs insulation is one of the most effective ways to fix that. By insulating your attic properly, you can create a thermal barrier that keeps warmth inside. That means even temperatures throughout the house—no more chilly bedrooms or freezing hallways.

When our insulation team visits your home, we’ll assess your attic, roofline, and upper walls. We’ll determine whether your insulation is sufficient or if it’s time for an upgrade. Sometimes, even adding a few inches of new insulation can dramatically improve comfort and efficiency.

And because J Smegal also provides professional roofing and gutter work, we ensure your entire system—from attic to rooftop—works together to protect your home.

3. Prevent Ice Dams Before They Form

Every winter, homeowners across Berkshire and Hampden Counties deal with a frustrating and costly problem: ice dams.

Ice dams form when heat from inside your home escapes through your roof, melting snow unevenly. As that melted snow refreezes near the roof edges, it creates thick ridges of ice that trap water. That water can then back up under shingles, leak into attics, and cause significant water damage.

The root cause isn’t your roof—it’s your insulation.

When your attic is properly insulated, it prevents warm air from escaping upward. That keeps the roof surface cold and prevents uneven melting. In other words, insulation to stop ice dams is one of the smartest winter investments a homeowner can make.

At J Smegal Roofing, we see firsthand how insulation and roofing work hand in hand. We use materials designed for New England winters, installed by a team that knows how to stop ice dams before they start. With the right insulation and ventilation balance, you can avoid the headaches and repair bills that come with frozen gutters and roof leaks.

Think of it as protection from the top down—saving your roof, your siding, and your peace of mind.

4. Save on Heating Costs All Winter Long

No homeowner likes seeing the heating bill spike in December. But if your home isn’t properly insulated, you’re essentially paying to heat the outdoors.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, up to 25% of heat loss happens through the attic. Walls and floors add even more to that total. Every small gap or thin layer of insulation lets warm air leak out and cold air leak in.

The result is a furnace that runs harder and longer, burning more fuel just to maintain comfort.

That’s where professional insulation services make a difference. With the right materials and installation, you can reduce heat loss dramatically. Many of our clients see their heating costs drop by 15–30% after an upgrade.

Beyond savings, the comfort is unmatched. Instead of fluctuating temperatures and constant drafts, your home maintains a steady, even warmth. You’ll also find your heating system runs more efficiently, extending its lifespan and reducing maintenance costs.

And because our team at J Smegal handles everything—from attic insulation to roof ventilation—you’ll get a complete solution that works together to maximize energy performance.

The sooner you insulate, the faster you start saving.

5. Make Your Home Quieter and Healthier

Insulation doesn’t just keep heat in—it also keeps noise out.

If you live near a busy road or have noisy neighbors, insulation can make your home noticeably quieter. The materials we use absorb sound vibrations, creating a more peaceful indoor environment. You’ll notice fewer outside noises and a calmer atmosphere overall.

Insulation also plays a role in air quality. By sealing gaps and cracks, it prevents dust, pollen, and outdoor pollutants from entering your living space. For families with allergies or respiratory issues, that’s a major improvement.

J Smegal’s residential insulation services are designed with your whole home in mind. We focus on comfort, energy efficiency, and long-term health. Our technicians make sure every corner is properly sealed, keeping the air clean and the temperature consistent.

And because we’re local, we know how to insulate for Massachusetts weather. From freezing winds to heavy snow, we ensure your home stays protected through every season.

6. Protect Your Home for the Long Term

Insulation isn’t just about comfort today—it’s an investment in your home’s future. Proper insulation reduces wear and tear on your heating system, helps prevent structural damage from moisture, and even improves your property value.

Buyers appreciate homes that are energy-efficient and well-maintained. If you ever decide to sell, upgraded insulation can be a strong selling point, especially in colder regions like Western Massachusetts.

At J Smegal Roofing, we combine years of craftsmanship with high-performance materials that stand up to harsh New England winters. Whether you live in a historic home in Pittsfield or a newer build in Northampton, our experts tailor every job to your home’s age, layout, and energy needs.

The result is comfort and protection that lasts year after year.

7. The Best Time to Insulate Is Now

Many homeowners wait until it’s already cold to think about insulation but that’s when contractors are busiest and heat loss is already happening. The best time to act is before winter hits.

By scheduling an insulation assessment now, you can fix problem areas, reduce your energy bills, and ensure your home is ready for whatever the season brings.

We start with a free estimate, then perform a thorough inspection of your attic, walls, and roofline. Once we know what your home needs, we install high-quality insulation quickly and cleanly—so you can enjoy immediate comfort.

We handle every detail, from assessing ventilation to checking for moisture buildup. You’ll feel the difference the moment the first cold front arrives.

Why Emergency Roof Repairs Before Winter Are Essential

When colder months approach, many homeowners focus on preparing their homes for harsh conditions. While sealing windows and checking heating systems are important, roof maintenance should be at the top of your list. Delaying roof repairs until after winter can lead to serious damage, higher costs, and avoidable stress. This article explains why emergency roof repairs are crucial before the snow falls and how timely action protects your home, your wallet, and your peace of mind.

The Hidden Dangers of Waiting

Most roofing issues begin small. A missing shingle, a minor leak, or damaged flashing might not seem urgent in the fall. However, winter weather magnifies these small problems quickly. Water from melting snow can seep under damaged areas. When temperatures drop, it freezes, expands, and worsens existing weaknesses. Over time, this can lead to severe leaks, structural damage, and expensive emergency calls.

Waiting also makes it harder to schedule professional services. Roofing contractors are in high demand after the first snowstorm. By planning emergency roof repairs before winter, you secure both availability and a safer home environment.

Why Winter Conditions Increase Roofing Risks

Snow and ice put enormous weight on a roof. If there are existing weak spots, this additional pressure can cause sagging or even collapse. Ice dams, which form when snow melts and refreezes near gutters, force water under shingles. Without proper maintenance, this leads to hidden moisture damage inside your attic or walls.

Additionally, repairing a roof in freezing temperatures is dangerous for both homeowners and contractors. Materials such as shingles do not seal properly in extreme cold, reducing the effectiveness of quick fixes. This makes autumn the ideal season for emergency roof repairs since conditions are safer, materials perform better, and problems can be solved permanently.

Common Signs You Need Emergency Roof Repairs

Recognizing early warning signs is essential. Here are several indicators you should not ignore:

Leaks or water stains on ceilings and walls.

Curling or missing shingles after heavy winds or storms.

Granules from shingles accumulating in gutters.

Mold or mildew forming in your attic space.

Sagging rooflines, which suggest structural compromise.

If you notice any of these, scheduling repairs immediately prevents larger problems later.

The Long-Term Costs of Delaying

Some homeowners assume roof maintenance can wait until spring. Unfortunately, postponing often multiplies expenses. A minor leak in October may become widespread water damage by March. That same issue could require insulation replacement, drywall repair, and mold remediation. What could have been a straightforward fix suddenly turns into thousands of dollars in additional work.

Preventative emergency roof repairs not only save money but also extend the lifespan of your roof. Investing in maintenance before winter ensures maximum durability for years to come.

How to Prepare for a Professional Inspection

Before scheduling repairs, homeowners can take simple steps:

Walk around your property and look for visible roof damage.

Check gutters for shingle granules or blockages.

Inspect your attic for moisture, drafts, or visible leaks.

Take note of unusual sounds during windy conditions.

Providing this information to a roofing contractor helps them identify issues faster.

The Role of Professional Expertise

While DIY repairs might seem appealing, roofing is complex and dangerous. Professionals bring the expertise, tools, and safety measures required for lasting solutions. They know how to diagnose problems thoroughly, select the right materials, and ensure proper installation techniques. Attempting to patch a roof without training often results in temporary fixes that fail during the first winter storm.

When considering roof repair near me, homeowners should choose a trusted local contractor. A reliable company understands regional weather conditions, recommends materials that perform best in the climate, and responds quickly in emergencies.

Why Autumn Is the Best Time for a New Roof

Sometimes repairs are not enough. If your roof is more than 20 years old, replacement may be more cost-effective. Choosing a new roof before winter guarantees better insulation, improved energy efficiency, and stronger resistance to snow loads.

A roof installation during autumn is smoother for several reasons. First, temperatures are mild, allowing shingles to seal properly. Second, contractors are less constrained by icy conditions, ensuring higher-quality workmanship. Third, homeowners benefit immediately by entering winter with a secure structure.

Materials That Withstand Winter Best

Selecting the right materials for emergency roof repairs makes a significant difference. Asphalt shingles remain popular for their affordability and durability. Metal roofing, though more expensive initially, offers superior snow shedding and longevity. Slate and tile are strong options as well, though they require additional structural support.

Your contractor will recommend the best option based on budget, design, and long-term performance.

Gutter Maintenance and Its Connection to Roof Health

A well-maintained roof depends on functional gutters. Clogged or damaged gutters prevent proper water drainage, causing ice dams and water intrusion. Cleaning gutters before winter and installing gutter guards can prevent serious issues. A roofing company specializing in both roofing and gutters provides comprehensive protection for your home.

Emergency Roof Repairs vs. Planned Replacements

Deciding between repair and replacement depends on several factors:

Age of the roof: Older systems often require replacement.

Extent of damage: Localized problems may be repaired, while widespread issues demand more.

Energy efficiency: Newer roofs often reduce heating costs during winter.

Budget considerations: Repairs may be more affordable short-term, but replacements offer long-term savings.

A professional inspection helps homeowners decide whether immediate repairs or full roof installation is the smarter choice.

Protecting Your Investment

Your home is your most important investment, and the roof is its primary shield.
Every roof needs to breathe just like we do. Do you know the difference between poor and proper ventilation?

Just like us roofs need to breathe in order to protect your roof.

Proper ventilation should be placed in a way that allows air to enter along the eaves and exit through the roof’s peak.

Poor ventilation can lead can cause a lot of problems. One of the biggest indicators of poor ventilation is ice dams. They form when heavy snow buildup melts during the day and then refreezes when temperatures drop overnight. This can push under shingle and tear your roofing system. The tear leads to water coming into your house. Then that water can cause damage and rot in your home.

You don't really notice roof until someone brings it up to you. Well here are some famous movies with roof scenes in them!

Scene 1) Rooftop Application Scene

Movie: Shawshank Redemption - Rooftop Scene

The prisoners in this scene are hard at work applying a black like substance on a hot day, while the prison guards talk about money. The substance they are applying is a roof coating that extends the life of your flat roof and protects it from leaking. We offer something similar called Castagra!

Scene 2) Arose Such a Clatter

Movie: Santa Clause

Non believer Scott Calvin, played by the one and only Tim Allen, hears something on his roof. He goes outside to check everything out only to find a weird man in a red suit! He screams "hey you!" which ended up startling this strange fellow on the roof. He fell of and the rest is history!!!! The point of this scene is that he startled Santa to the point that he fell of the roof, but the ice definitely didn't help.

During the winter months ice and snow tend to build up on your roof if you aren't on top off it (pun not intended). We NEVER recommend a homeowner to go up on their roof at this time because, lets be honest, you don't want to end up like Santa. Call a professional like us for snow and ice removal!

Lets not be a Clark Griswold this holiday! Here are some helpful tips and tricks to get your
decorations up WITHOUT damaging the roof and yourself!

1. Say no to nails!
Try to avoid ANYTHING that will create even the smallest hole in your roof! These wholes
can potentially cause access for water. Instead try using plastic gutter clips.
2. Inflatables
I know that having a giant frosty on the roof would be unique and fun, but if high winds
were to take frosty away it would potentially damage your roof.
3. You’re not Santa so use a ladder!
I know it seems easier to walk along the roof and put the lights on your roof line, but its
EXTREMELY dangerous. Grab an extension ladder and make sure its set up safely.
4. Turn on the lights!
Make sure everything is properly plugged in! Outdoor lights require high voltage try using
the correct outdoor bulbs. If you have any questions on fire safety call your local fire
department.
5. Outlets
Make sure you have GFI rated outlets!

Hangers

The main job of gutter hangers is to attach the gutters to your roof. They ensure that your gutter system is secure, stable and well-supported. Without these components, your gutters can be prone to issues like water damage.

Hangers are also typically use on houses that have crown molding.

Fascia

The fascia is the attractive board along the side of the overhang and the roof that helps your roof appear finished, not to be confused with crown molding (which is also decorative). Your gutter sits atop the facia board. The fascia is also known as a “transition trim” between the home and the roofline. The fascia supports the shingles and helps to keep moisture out.

So what one is better?

Both have their advantages but it is less likely that gutters will pull away from the home when installed on fascia.

What is a low slope roof and what materials do we use?

A low-slope roof is one that has a slope of less than 3-in-12. This means that for every
horizontal foot, the roof level goes up less than 3 inches vertically. You can typically find this
roofed using a roll out shingle or torch down system. Here at J Smegal we prefer to use a brand
called PolyGlass.
PolyGlass is a leading manufacturer of modified bitumen roofing and waterproofing
membranes and roof coatings for low- and steep-slope applications. Committed to adding value
through innovation, Polyglass utilizes the most technologically advanced manufacturing
processes in the industry with four state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities.
Some of the products we typically use are:
1. Elastoflex – Cap Sheet
A self-adhered SBS (elastomeric) granulated cap sheet for use in low-slope roofing. also
features SEALLap ® ULTRA, side lap with self-adhesive compound for an instant bond, tested
stronger than all other application methods and FASTLap ® , granule free end lap. Each of
these patented features provide for greater ease of application as well as improved long-
term performance.
2. Elastoflex-Base Sheet
A premium self-adhered elastomeric base ply roofing product. built with a high
performance reinforced fiberglass mat to ensure excellent dimensional stability.
Elastoflex SA V membrane is finished with sand or polyolefin film with laylines on the top
surface and a split release film on the bottom surface.
3. Elastoflex Polar Cap-
A granule surfaced, self-adhered, SBS modified bitumen low-slope roofing membrane.
Designed for colder weather applications, a high quality elastomeric Styrene-Butadiene-
Styrene (SBS) modified asphalt compound is applied on the top layer and an aggressive self-
adhesive compound is applied on the bottom layer. The high performance reinforced
polyester mat provides excellent puncture and tear resistance.
4. Elastoflex Polar Base-
A self-adhered, elastomeric base ply low-slope roofing product designed for colder weather
applications. built with a high performance reinforced fiberglass mat to ensure excellent
dimensional stability.

Evolving with an industry is always the best way to go! Lately we've been utilizing our very own certified drone pilot and here is how!

Its time to embrace new technology! As a commercial roofing company there are benefits to
utilizing drones.

1) Reducing Inspection Time
Set up for a drone takes about 5 minutes compared to the set up of your typical
equipment for a home roof inspection. Once in the air it takes roughly 10-30 minutes to
complete and relay the results. Since this time is reduced there is more time to serve
more homeowners in need!

2) Cost-Saving
Less equipment means less cost.

3) Reduce Safety Risks
Not every roof is the same. Sometimes there are roofs that are in need of more than
just a ladder. In these case it is extra beneficial to have drones on our side. Getting on a
roof is not for the faint of heart!

A roof is the best defense against mother natures, but what happens when you start to notice something is wrong?

First off DON’T PANICK!

Here are some things that help us determine the difference between a repair and needing a new roof.
How old is your roof?
Asphalt roofing systems typically last 20-30 years, if installed correctly. Any roof you are having problems with over 20 years we recommend getting an estimate.
Do you have any leaks? (If so how many?)
If you have multiple leaks it means that something might be wrong with your roofing system. If you repair those leaks the water will find another way in which means its time for a new roof.
If you have one leak and the roof is under 20 years then you would qualify for a repair.
How many layers do you have on it?
The State of Massachusetts roofing code doesn’t allow anything over 2 layers of shingles. If you have more the weight of the shingles could potentially cause structural damage. Here at J Smegal we NEVER recommend or put another layer of shingles over an existing layer.
Anything over 1 layer we will NOT repair.
Do you have any missing shingles?
Yes? Then that would be considered a repair. Just give us a call with the color of your roof and we will send our certified technicians out to put a shingle on.
If you are questioning the state of your roof and need an estimate give us a call!

Want to protect your roof from failing fast? We have some helpful tips for you!

No one wants an unexpected cost! Here are some tips on how to help your roof last longer!

1. Clean the gutters
This will keep the water flowing off your roof properly

2. Remove leaves
EVERYWHERE! Leaf build up will cause reduced or incorrect water flow

3. Get Rid of moss
Too much moss on your roof can cause moisture build up that can lead to rot. We
recommend a product called “Wet & Forget”

4. Trim overhanging Branches
This will help prevent any potential damages

5. Prevent Ice Dams
The formation of ice dams can lead to severe issues on your roof. Ice will build up a pierce
through the protective layers on your roof. If you have an ice damn issue call a roofing
professional.

If you’re questioning whether you need a roof replacement call us!

In walking up to an old 18th century building you might notice the creature like statues on the side!
There was even a fiction tv show based off of their “secret” night life!
You guessed it!
Gargoyles
They traditionally symbolize “guardianship” over a building and supposedly are known to “ward of evil spirits”. What you don’t know is that in the belly and mouth of the different looking ornament is a gaping hole. This hole provides a less noticeable path for water to flow away from the roof. This process prevented water from running down the buildings wall.

So gargoyles were the equivalent to a downspout in 18th century architecture.

Are you curious? Well we were so we did some research for you!

Here are some major landmarks that use different types of materials for their roofs!

India

Best known for their food and culture, India is home to a major landmark called the Taj Mahal! The main tomb’s domed roof was constructed from 28 varieties of semi-precious and precious gems and white marble bricks. It took 20,000 workers 22 years to build and required 1,000 elephants to transport the materials to the construction site.
Spain

Beautiful dancing and amazing food, Spain has a hidden gem called Casa Mila. The building was commissioned in 1906 by businessman Pere Milà and his wife Roser Segimon. At the time, it was controversial because of its undulating stone facade, twisting wrought iron balconies and windows designed by Josep Maria Jujol. Several structural innovations include a self-supporting stone front, columns and floors free of load-bearing walls, an underground garage and sculptural elements on the roof. There are three types of stone in the façade: limestone from the Garraf in the lower parts and in some of the structural elements; stone from Vilafranca del Penedès for the bulk of the façade; and limestone from Ulldecona for some of the features (the frames of some of the windows.
